The Superdome is a massive structure located on 52 acres of
land, including the former Girod Street Cementary.  The
Dome has an interior space of 125,000,000 ft. , a height
of 253 ft, a dome diameter of 680ft., and a total floor area
of 269,000sqft.

It is the largest fixed domed structure in the world, but it lost its
title as the largest dome structure when the Georgia Dome was built
in 1992.  Since then both have been surpassed in size by the
Millennium Dome of London in 1999.

The New Orleans Saints

Contruction on the Superdome started on August 11, 1971 and was
finished in Novevmber 1975.  The New Orleans Saints openned
the 1975-1976 NFL Season at the Superdome.  Tulane Stadium,
which had served as the Saint's first home and the city's primary stadium,
was condemned on the day the Superdome openned.

More Sugar Bowl games have been played at the Louisiana
Superdome than at any other sports facility:
1978, 1981, 1986, 1990, 1997, and 2002.
The Superdome also hosts:
The Sugar Bowl
The New Orleans Bowl
Tulane University Football
Bayou Classic Football.
The Superdome also played host to several NCAA College
basketball Final Fours:
1982, 1987, 1993, 2004.
The 1996 and 2003 Southeastern Conference men's basketball
tournaments were also held there, as was the 1976 NFL Pro
Bowl.
